This has been another week of waiting for news from the government. Whilst there is still a lot to hear about, we did at least find out that children will be receiving free school meals across the summer holidays and that there is a £1 billion support package to help disadvantaged pupils make up for any missed learning.
Included this week are items highlighted by members that may prove useful to many of you.
We are aware there have been some challenges in accessing online meeting platforms in school.
To have platforms such as Zoom unblocked please email [email protected] from your head@ school account with the platform you need unblocking.
Most can be done immediately without any changes to filtering or authorisation. Any issues please call them on 01603 475603.

This virtual assembly has been highly recommended online and in the news, supporting children at home to deal with all of the concerns they might be facing at this time: coping strategies, who to talk to and how to get help. It links heavily to Childline. You can embed Youtube links onto websites or within documents to discourage wider access to Youtube.

Planning for the summer/September is incredibly difficult. Whilst we await guidance of what the government would like us to do and then plan accordingly, there is the reality that in mid to late August the COVID situation may change which will impact carefully prepared plans. ASCL for example are currently advising its members to make two plans, one for a rota based return and one for a full school return.
We propose creating groups of 6 to 8 headteachers with similar schools to form peer support networks. We will facilitate online meetings for you, enabling planning discussions to take place for summer, September and beyond. We would ask that each group feeds back so ideas and concerns can be collated and shared/addressed for all.
